Objectives
Through completing this challenge, students will be able to:
- Identify and describe properties of matter, including: flexibility, strength, transparency, hardness, water resistance, size, color, weight, and texture.
- Identify and describe three phases of matter: solid, liquid, and gas.
- Identify and describe the particles that make up a solid, liquid, and gas. IE: Particles are close together in a solid.
- Identify and describe examples of reversible and irreversible changes. IE: A cooked egg is an example of an irreversible change.
- Identify and describe how some matter can change states if heated or cooled. IE: Water changes from a liquid to a solid when cooled to freezing.
- Demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of structure and properties of matter to pack an “appropriate lunch” for a field trip. (SEE ASSESSMENT)
- Demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of structure and properties of matter by completing a student portfolio. (SEE ASSESSMENT)
