Changing Matter
Directions: Some matter changes when it is heated or cooled. As a group, explore the WebQuest "Matter Matters" (click link). Click and read the "Introduction" and "Learn About Matter" (skip "Solid, Liquid, or Gas?") in order to help you answer big questions, such as:
As a group, print and complete Changing Phases Worksheet (click link) as you read the "Introduction" and "Learn About Matter" in the WebQuest.
After you have printed and completed the worksheet, bring your "Action Plan" worksheet (one per student) and obtain teacher's signature.
Move on to the next part of the WebQuest, "Changing Matter." As a group, take turns placing items into the oven and record what happens as you heat the items. Next, take turns placing items into the freezer and record what happens as you freeze the items. Record your responses as part of your answers to the Changing Phases Simulation Worksheet (click link) (print and complete ONE per group, but make sure you each provide your own answer to the last question).
After "Changing Matter" has been completed, choose and complete 2 of the 3 "Optional Group Activities."
